Summary:

Utah Valley University Department of Digital Media is seeking a creative and innovative digital audio production professional for the appointment of Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) beginning Fall 2020.
Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study with measurable objectives. Prepare instructional materials, including instructional packets, syllabi, tests, handouts, electronic presentations, visual aids, etc.
Instructs, manages, and supervises students, individually and in groups, in the classroom and laboratory using lectures, discussions, demonstrations, field trips, or other appropriate methods. Develop novel laboratory equipment and processes to simulate job conditions for student success.

Primary responsibilities include teaching audio basics; basic to advanced usage of leadings DAWs with emphasis on AVID ProTools; signal flow; impedance and level matching; recording techniques, including microphone selection and placement for a wide variety of subjects; mixing; proper application of signal processors (both digital and analog); on-set audio for motion picture production; post-production audio, including ADR, Foley, sound design, and music mixing; audio restoration; and other audio topics TBD to meet student needs. Must be able to certify students on official AVID ProTools certifications. Ability to manage, mentor and support advanced students producing capstone projects a plus. Tenure track expects, in addition to teaching a full load, relevant scholarship and university service activities sufficient to qualify for retention for five years, and the potential for awarding of tenure thereafter.

Required Qualifications:

M.F.A. from a regionally accredited institution in digital audio-related field required.
Expert understanding and knowledge of AVID ProTools DAW, including official credentials to confer certifications upon qualified students.
At least three (3) years of experience teaching a variety digital audio courses at the university level.
At least three (3) years of experience working professionally in the audio field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of digital audio production.
  • Knowledge of basic scientific audio concepts, including requisite math.
  • Interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Skills in maintaining professional and ethical academic standards.
  • Skills in operating Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) software, esp. ProTools.
  • Ability to develop curriculum and teach design courses.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with a diverse student-body and faculty.
  • Ability and willingness to join and adapt to existing program with courtesy.

Physical Requirements:

Frequently standing, sitting and walking associated with teaching in a classroom. Frequent fine hand manipulation related to the use of a computer. Consistent need to speak, hear and see.
