The Operations and Events Manager provides operations leadership and administrative support for the Department’s extensive public-facing efforts, including approximately 350 public events annually, as well as for classes, rehearsals, and other activities for academic programs in Music, Theater & Performance Studies, Dance, and Public Speaking, as well as for more than twenty co-curricular performance groups. As is typical for operating a performing arts center, they support the DPA’s events, performance centered pedagogy, and multifaceted service to the University. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
For departmental performances and public events – including front-line interaction with audiences, including members of the campus and broader DC arts communities:
Lead a part-time student patron services staff
Manage online ticketing systems
Collaborate with the General Manager and students on box-office reconciliations, concessions, etc.
Oversee house management, ensuring departmental public safety and updating emergency protocols
Perform administrative and operational oversight of performing arts events and initiatives across several campus venues (Davis Performing Arts Center, McNeir Hall, Poulton Hall, and Village C Theater) and events at other non-Departmental venues - Gaston Hall, for example).
Support for Faculty/Ensemble Directors and Students
Coordinate rehearsal and performance scheduling requests
Manage calendars for the Music Program, McNeir Hall, and Gaston Hall, and other programs
Organizing and supervise spaces, facilities, and equipment critical to instructional needs - such as instrumental repair, tuning of pianos, access to rehearsal spaces, technology in the recording studio and classroom spaces, etc.)
Support set-up and strike for events and activities
Manage maintenance needs - including documenting and reporting deficiencies, submitting work orders, and interacting with facilities and custodial services
Work closely with the General Manager to oversee building and security operations, including all keys to faculty/staff
Collaborate with University offices to organize cleaning and regular maintenance for departmental spaces – e.g., offices, classrooms, practice rooms, rehearsal spaces, recording studio or the primary venue of McNeir Auditorium
