Wesleyan University’s Theater Department invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of movement and voice beginning July 1, 2022. Candidates may teach one or more of the following performance techniques: Linklater, Feldenkrais, Alexander, Fitzmaurice, Suzuki, Laban, Grotowski, Lecoq, Lessac, or Berry. However, we welcome candidates with alternative experience with non-Western or non-traditional performance techniques including but not limited to Kabuki, hip-hop, martial arts, stage combat, circus, mask theater, etc. The successful candidate will integrate their voice and movement specialties into a curriculum that emphasizes interdisciplinary research as the foundation of actor training for traditional, experimental, and devised performance.
The candidate will also teach beginning acting classes, will have the opportunity to direct plays, and will be interested in pursuing the unique possibilities of teaching and creating theater in a liberal arts environment where collaboration with other departments is encouraged. The teaching load is 2/2. Additional duties include advising and mentoring students, carrying on a program of artistic and/or scholarly research, and participating in faculty governance at the departmental and university level.
