Manages and leads the Department of Art, teaches in area of expertise within the department, engages in and promotes scholarship, engages in and promotes service, and maintains internal and external constituent relationships. Reports to the Dean of the College of Communications, Language Arts, and Social Sciences, and serves at the discretion of the Dean.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide effective leadership in facilitating the vision, mission, goals, and objectives of the Department consistent with those of the College and University.
Teach courses in area of expertise.
Oversee promotion process and annual faculty/staff evaluations within the department, providing appropriate and timely feedback.
Oversee and maintain NASAD accreditation.
Engage in intramural and extramural funding initiatives.
Oversee program assessment and reporting.
Develop and submit annual report to Dean.
Collaborate with faculty in steering curriculum development, maintain effective and progressive curricula.
Develop and manage course schedules.
Develop and manage departmental budget and financial resources.
Coordinate outreach and marketing for programs.
Delegate/allocate responsibilities in an effective and equitable manner to meet the needs of faculty, students, the department, and the college.
Facilitate recruitment and retention of a diverse group of highly qualified and motivated faculty and staff.
Provide mentoring and professional develop for faculty.
Facilitate departmental meetings.
Advise art department majors.
Facilitate recruitment and retention of a diverse student population.
Assist and support faculty in developing and achieving high standards in teaching, student learning, assessment, and scholarly and creative activity.
Maintain professional and ethical standards in administration of duties.
Service to the College and the University.
Commitment to the use and advancement of technology.
Engage in professional and creative activity to remain current in their chosen discipline.
Support student organizations and related events to include time and travel for education and competition as needed.
Maintain strong working relationship with faculty and staff.
Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to foster teamwork and by providing leadership to subordinates. Requires consistent on-time attendance.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Thorough disciplinary and instructional knowledge within candidate’s field area of expertise.
Knowledge of licensure and NASAD accreditation requirements.
Ability to provide collaborative leadership, collegial decision-making, and shared faculty governance.
Ability to prioritize and plan work activities; use time efficiently; and develop realistic action plans.
Ability to connect and engage with diverse groups on campus and in the wider community.
Ability to work in a quality-focused academic environment with excellent organizational and detail-oriented skills in a professional manner.
Knowledge of Blackboard Learning Management System, preferred.
Proficiency with student project assessment.
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Required Education and/or Experience: MFA in Graphic Design, Studio Art or related field, and a minimum of 5 years’ professional work experience in higher education instruction.
