The Department of Theatre and Dance in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University at Buffalo is seeking an Assistant to the Chair. You would provide direct assistance to the Department Chairperson in all administrative functions of the department in accordance with State, University, Research Foundation (RF), UB Foundation and College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) guidelines, policies, and procedures. The Assistant to the Chair serves as the department "office manager" and is the supervisor of record for the Department Office Assistant.

Listed below are the broad areas of responsibility within the purview of the Assistant to the Chair, but are not limited to:

  • You will assist the Chair in development of annual departmental budgets including departmental guidelines and procedures (for example, faculty travel). You will also monitor expenditures and provide account reconciliation.
  • You will prepare and/or verify all personnel transactions for department in a timely manner (ensuring employees are paid on time and/or removed from payroll in a timely manner) and that budgets are appropriately impacted.
  • You will complete the annual department space survey and monitor space usage/availability. Coordinate with the Chair to assign space in accordance with Department, CAS, and University guidelines.
  • You will supervise the Department Office Assistant 2. Which includes completing an annual performance program and evaluation, monitor and manage workflow in department to ensure that faculty and students are being appropriately supported and that deadlines are met.
  • You will oversee the maintenance of department records and files adhering to CAS and University guidelines.
  • You will collaborate with the Academic Manager to update (Fall, Spring, Summer) course schedules for department in University system ensuring there is appropriate instructional personnel (faculty, adjuncts, TAs) and the instructional budget has not been exceeded.
