The College of Architecture and Design at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor to teach in the Graphic Design program beginning August 1, 2019. The successful candidate will join colleagues in the Graphic Design program to become part of a newly forming School of Design. Candidates should have an MFA with a design emphasis, MGD or MDes.
Assistant / Associate Professor of Graphic Design, Job duties + Responsibilities
The successful candidate will join Graphic Design colleagues as part of a progressive design education environment. With a teaching load of two courses per semester, this individual will contribute to the development of undergraduate minors and a future graduate curriculum. The candidate must be capable of teaching across all levels in the undergraduate BFA and bring an interest in curriculum development relative to the direction of the program. The current curriculum is uniquely designed to encourage cross-disciplinary studies and collaborations, within the university and the community, and to prepare students for professional practice.
In addition, the faculty member will be expected to pursue an active research agenda and conduct service activities on both the School and College level. The position presents a unique opportunity for candidates who have an interest in pursuing an innovative, cross-disciplinary research agenda, with an emphasis on engaged scholarship. We offer a supportive and collegial atmosphere in which designers make a variety of important contributions to research, teaching, and public engagement.

o be capable of teaching across all levels in the undergraduate BFA curriculum
o exhibit design/concept generation beyond project management and production
o exhibit an ability/interest in the development of new technologies into established design practice
o have a terminal degree

o exhibit an interest in curriculum development relative to the direction of the program
o possess design teaching experience at the undergraduate level
o exhibit professional experience in design practice
