Non-Tenure Track (Open Rank) – Graphic Design

The School of Art + Design at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites
applications to fill one or more open-rank, non-tenure-track faculty appointments (up
to 100% time for up to 9 months). Responsibilities include teaching under graduate and
graduate-level courses in Industrial Design for the School of Art + Design
(on-campus or online), mentor and oversee Graduate Teaching Assistants as
needed, meet with instructors of other sections when appropriate. These
appointments are eligible for renewal at the School’s discretion.

Qualifications
Terminal degree (MFA, MDes, or equivalent) in Industrial Design required.
Demonstrated excellence in teaching Industrial Design with three years of experience
at the undergraduate and/or graduate level is highly desirable; studio teaching
experience is preferred. In addition, the successful candidate will have the following:
Ability to teach CAD modeling software – SolidWorks or equivalent.
Demonstrated experience in product form-giving, utilizing both hand and rapid
prototyping methods.
Accomplished in design drawing to communicate product design concepts.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Possess a working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience (outside of higher education)
designing manufactured consumer products.

should possess a demonstrated record of professional accomplishments spanning all
phases of the product design and development process, including concept through
manufacture. Candidates with experience in UI/UX design will warrant special
attention.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and percentage of appointment.

Proposed Starting Dates
9-month appointments: August 16, 2020
Fall-semester appointments: August 16, 2020
Spring-semester appointments: January 1, 2021
