Job ID: 24019, Lecturer (Doctoral Schedule) - Art History

The Art Department seeks a full-time, tenure-track lecturer in Art History. The area of specialization is open but should not overlap the Department’s current offerings; preference will be given to European Art between about 1400 and 1900, modern and contemporary global art, East Asian or Islamic Art. In addition to teaching the Department’s introductory surveys and other college-wide distribution requirements, the successful candidate will be expected to oversee the process of obtaining approval for a variety of further courses within or adjacent to their fields of specialization. The course load is high (eight courses per year) and the Department will work with the candidate to reduce course preparation time by teaching multiple sections of the introductory surveys each semester. Lecturers being considered for tenure are evaluated primarily on their teaching and their professional development; no research agenda is expected. A completed PhD in Art History (or a closely allied field) is required by the time of initial appointment, as is demonstrated pedagogical success and the ability to engage a diverse student population with widely variable educational backgrounds. A record of 3-5 years teaching experience is preferred. The position serves the Art Department's majors in Studio Art, Design, and Photography & Imaging as well as Art History. The Department is looking for a dynamic teacher who will stay abreast of the latest developments in Art History pedagogy and will inspire non-majors to pursue the major or minor in Art History. The ideal candidate is a team player who will share in administrative tasks and be an active participant in departmental and/or college-wide committees. Candidates are required to submit a cover letter, CV, Teaching Portfolio that includes syllabi and evidence of successful pedagogies such as student and/or peer evaluations, and the names of three references, preferably from among teaching peers in higher education.
