ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF MUSIC, THEATRE & DANCE: As a comprehensive performing arts school set in one of the world’s finest public institutions of higher education, the School of Music, Theatre & Dance (SMTD) is deeply engaged in the creation, practice, scholarship, and pedagogy of music, theatre, and dance. Duties:
The Department of Performing Arts Technology seeks an innovative practitioner and/or researcher working at the intersection of computational creativity and artificial intelligence as it applies to music, sound, and visual arts. It is desirable for candidates to have a strong musical background and additional interest, experience, and expertise in one or more of the following complementary areas: audio and visual signal processing, music information retrieval, generative and algorithmic art, video game design.
The appointee will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence; create an innovative curriculum for a broad range of students of varied identities and backgrounds who seek to explore a range of educational opportunities and career pathways; teach undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of expertise as well as core courses in Performing Arts Technology and relevant offerings for non-majors; recruit and retain students of exceptional promise; and continue to develop and maintain a visible national and international profile as a [performer/scholar] and a pedagogue. The appointee will also be expected to participate in faculty governance, attend faculty meetings, and serve on faculty and university committees as appropriate.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to empower, advocate for, and value a broad range of students of diverse identities and experiences, as shown through pedagogy, mentoring, and related activities, either a terminal degree in a relevant field, or a Master’s degree with substantial additional experience as an artist, researcher, or industry professional prior to the start date; demonstrated evidence of successful teaching at a professional or university level or promise of same; professional experience in highly collaborative environments working with a range of stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong musical background; experience in music and sound design for film, television, video games, and other visual media; experience in grant-writing, extramural fundraising, and/or industry-academic partnerships.
