Job Description:

The School of Sciences and Engineering at the American University in Cairo is seeking applications for a four-year fixed-term faculty position within its Department of Architecture at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. The successful candidate is expected to be active and capable of developing research and providing services in his/her field of specialization.

The candidate must have extensive experience in the areas of Digital Communication in Architecture, utilizing state of the art methods and software. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the exploration of the role of Digital Communication and Building Information Modeling (BIM) within the Department of Architecture. She/he will also be expected to establish and pursue a research focus in the areas of Digital Communication and BIM as related to methodology and practice; to teach entry level digital communication courses and to lead the introduction of digital means (BIM and similar) in courses related to building details and construction documents production; and to ensure that students acquire appropriate knowledge, understanding and related skills. The successful applicant will also be expected to contribute to the development of a Master Degree in Architecture on methodology, theory and practice, along with other members of the department.

The candidate will be appointed by the Department of Architecture, which is rapidly expanding its facilities. These include three state-of-the-art computing labs, a digital fabrication lab with a laser cutter, rapid prototyping and 3D robotic arm facilities.


Requirements:

The candidate must have a PhD or a similar degree in Architecture. She/he should have a significant academic experience in the area of Digital Communication and BIM; preferably a candidate with a North American or a similar experience. A strong track record of teaching and professional practice in the production of complete design packages of international level projects utilizing BIM and other computational means is preferred. Renewal beyond the first year is contingent upon a successful review of teaching, scholarship and service.
