The School of Art + Design at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Industrial Design tenure-track appointment beginning August 16, 2021.

Qualifications
The school seeks a ready collaborator, eager to prepare future designers while also responding in their research to the rich context of a leading research university, including but not limited to new initiatives across health and aging, medicine, data science, and education. We seek a forward-thinking individual capable of fostering positive relationships, inspiring students, and contributing to the school’s ambitious agenda for transforming research, teaching, and practice in design to be more just and inclusive.
Preference will be given to those with instructional experience beyond a teaching assistant position. The ideal candidate should possess a demonstrated record of professional accomplishments spanning all phases of the product design and development process, including concept through manufacture. Candidates with experience in UI/UX design will warrant special attention. A Ph.D., MFA, MDes, or equivalent degree in Industrial Design is required.

Responsibilities
Teaching responsibilities entail two courses each in the fall and spring semesters. Candidates should be qualified to teach throughout the curriculum. The candidate is also expected to participate in research, scholarship, creative activity, curriculum development, and service.
Situated at one of the world’s premier public research-intensive universities, the industrial design undergraduate and graduate programs have a distinguished record preparing graduates as design practitioners in industry and as educators. The growing industrial design BFA and MFA programs are among the largest and most highly respected programs in the nation, consistently ranking in the top ten in national polls. Our research informs and keeps current classroom learning activities through industry sponsorships and faculty research initiatives. The school offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in Art Education, Art History, Crafts, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, New Media, Painting, Photography, and Sculpture. The future of Design at Illinois also includes a new facility intended for outreach, education, and experimentation in Design for students in fields within and outside the arts.

As a part of the College of Fine and Applied Arts at Illinois, the School of Art + Design offers a ready opportunity for collaborations with Siebel Center for Design, Krannert Art Museum and Krannert Center for Performing Arts, Japan House, and with active departments of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban and Regional Planning, Dance, Theater, and Music.
