The Department of Architecture in the University at Buffalo’s School of Architecture and Planning invites candidates for the position of clinical assistant or associate professor in architectural design. The school seeks to recruit and retain a diverse workforce as a reflection of our commitment to serve the diverse people of Buffalo and New York State, and to offer students diverse perspectives and ways of learning.

As design studios form the core of the department’s pedagogy, the successful candidate will be expected to take a leadership role in coordinating and teaching studios. The candidate will also provide pedagogical leadership and teach courses in architectural media and communications, as well as other domains.

The faculty of the Department of Architecture has an exemplary record of accomplishment – ranking among the top ten nationally in both federal funding and books published – allied with robust involvement in international design competitions, exhibitions, and built work. More than 350 undergraduate and 100 graduate students are enrolled in the BS, M.Arch, and MS degree programs. Faculty, staff, and students engage global issues – such as climate resilience, technological innovation, and social justice – while building strong relationships with governmental, community, and industry partners.

Graduate programs leverage a unique "Graduate Research Group" structure, whereby students complete required coursework through specialized tracks of study that align with areas of faculty expertise. These include: Ecological Practices, Inclusive Design, Material Culture, Situated Technologies, and Urban Design. Emergent focus areas include initiatives in affordable housing, material innovation and advanced fabrication, and design for health.

UB is the SUNY’s most comprehensive public research university. It is a member of the prestigious American Association of Universities and has a strong tradition as a destination for international students and scholars. Buffalo, "The City of Good Neighbors," is the second largest urban area in New York State and is a cultural center with excellent museums, theaters, and music venues. Buffalo is among the most affordable cities in the U.S., is situated in a region bordering Canada, and offers a wide range of recreational opportunities.
