Job Description Summary

9-month Professor of Practice, full-time, non-tenure track, salary commensurate with experience. Appointment begins August 16, 2023.

This position will coordinate the commercial music program, teach classes in music theory/harmony, American popular music history, analytical techniques in commercial music, and ensembles, among other possibilities. This person will also be key to integrating the new music recording studio into the commercial music curriculum and to serving as a liaison among industry partners, musicians, students, and the Department of Music more generally. This position is envisioned as a professor of practice to bring performance and industry experience directly to student training.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in music and significant professional experience at the time of appointment is required. Experience teaching at the college or university level is required.

The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment.

Desired Qualifications

Demonstrated experience teaching the performance of a variety of popular/commercial music styles, music theory, and popular music history. Evidence of extensive professional recording and performing activities, experience with leadership, curriculum, budget and general program oversight and maintenance.
