The School of Interiors in the College of Design at the University of Kentucky is accepting applications for a Temporary Assistant Professor (non-tenure-eligible), from individuals who are passionate about design education and practice and who think broadly about its capacity and application. The position is open to a wide range of specializations, including endeavors on the fringes of the field. While teaching experience in higher education is preferred, experiences not conventional to academic settings are also considered valuable. This position is a 9-month appointment with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2023, and initial appointment period of one years to end May 15, 2024. As the Commonwealth of Kentucky’s premier CIDA-accredited undergraduate Interior Design program, which was awarded accreditation in 2021, the School of Interiors offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Interiors: Planning, Strategy, Design and a two-year Master of Arts (MA) in Interior Design. The interdisciplinary composition of the faculty, who participate in research, teaching, and practice, enables the School to fulfill the University’s Land Grant Mission by delivering exceptional design education. Recently having celebrated its 50th year, the School of Interiors has a rich academic tradition of promoting an environment that supports diverse intellectual approaches within a rigorous design curriculum and provocative experiences.
Applicants need to be strongly grounded in knowledge of the interior design profession. Ideal candidates should be qualified and able to teach any level of undergraduate design studio, as well as a combination of two or more of the following courses: design communications, design professions, undergraduate and/or graduate special topic elective, or graduate research methods. This is a teaching position with no expectation of research, but candidates will contribute to committee activities of the School of Interiors.
