The Performing Arts Program at American University of Sharjah invites applications for an open rank, full-time faculty position in music. Candidates must be able to effectively teach applied and group voice (soprano and/or mezzo-soprano preferred), as well as introduction to piano, to a variety of student-levels. The faculty member must also be able to teach courses in music history and theory. Preference will be given to those experienced in contemporary and classical Western styles, and the ability to work with students of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Successful candidates must have a PhD or a DMA in music at the time of appointment, and a record of excellent teaching and/or research agenda in their field. The new faculty member will contribute to the sustainability, growth and development of the Performing Arts Program’s artistic goals, and serve on college and university-wide committees.
The deadline for the submission of applications is December 1, 2021 and review of applications will be completed by the middle of January 2022. The position is to begin in August 2022.
As a university formed on the American model and with English as the language of instruction, American University of Sharjah will give priority to candidates who have substantial experience in American models of higher education.
