The Department of Industrial Design, Rhode Island School of Design, invites applications for two full-time faculty appointments, at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, to commence Fall 2019. Rhode Island School of Design recognizes diversity and inclusivity as fundamental to its learning community and integral to an art and design education. We welcome candidates whose experiences in teaching, creative practice, scholarship, professional practice, service, and personal experience have prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence. We especially seek individuals whose work engages non-western design traditions and who will add to the rich mix of exploration supporting the collegial environment that defines our institution.
The Industrial Design Department seeks two colleagues with a deep commitment to teaching as well as a vibrant creative or scholarly practice. Candidates should be elastic thinkers with leadership potential who are engaged in and motivated by the breadth of contemporary practice. They should be prepared to develop culturally diverse syllabi and lead classes and critiques that model constructive, inclusive discussions and that encourage our diverse student body to grow creatively and intellectually. Candidates should be interested in joining a highly motivated community of students and faculty who both value our strong making tradition and the exploration of the boundaries of the field.
Candidates should demonstrate their ability to enhance and advance the Department’s record of innovative practice and curriculum, to expand the vision of industrial design and to bring fresh perspectives to areas such as research, process, making and experimentation, as well as social and business innovation. Our department is made up of passionate practitioners and committed teachers who continue to grow and explore and we look for those qualities in our new colleagues.
