Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Department of Graphic Design in the College of Design at Iowa State University is welcoming applications for an Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor to join our 15-person graphic design faculty and assist in advancing the department’s future goals. Applicants should demonstrate interest and ability to teach in all areas of graduate and undergraduate graphic design. This especially includes one or more of the following areas: history of graphic design, interaction design, web development, digital photography, creative technology, typography, experiential design, UX/UI design, or motion graphics. The successful candidate will have a strong spirit of collaboration and be committed to interdisciplinary teaching and dialogue and working with diverse groups.
We seek a candidate to join our faculty as an Assistant or Associate Professor of Teaching at 100% basis for a 9-month service period. The teaching load is 3 courses per semester. An appointment may be 1–3 years in length, renewable, and is not tenure-eligible. The expected start date is August 16, 2022.
Successful candidate must be able to:
Develop and teach courses independently, as well as teach existing courses as part of a coordinated and dynamic team of graphic design instructors.
Demonstrate a clear understanding of design processes and methodology as part of the creative process.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
-Experience developing and teaching graphic design courses.
-Experience teaching at the graduate level.
-Demonstrated ability to teach design processes, design research, and design methodology as part of the creative process.
Department/Program & College Description:
The Department of Graphic Design is part of ISU’s College of Design, along with Departments of Architecture, Art and Visual Cultures, Community and Regional Planning, Industrial Design, Interior Design, and Landscape Architecture. The Department offers a NASAD-accredited BFA in Graphic Design, an MA in Experiential Graphic Design, and an MFA in Graphic Design. The department enrolls over 200 undergraduate and over 25 graduate students, all of whom engage in both traditional and emerging technologies and are prepared to become leaders in the field of visual communication.
