Assistant Professor of Practice: Scenic Design/Lighting

The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) Department of Theatre Arts seeks an Assistant Professor of Practice with an emphasis in Scenic Design, (Lighting as secondary foci) starting August 21, 2019. Salary commensurate with experience.

Qualifications: MFA in scene design or professional equivalent. At least two years experience teaching at the college/university level and/or significant professional experience as a scenic designer/scenic artist. Working knowledge of CAD/Vectorworks, drawing, rendering, painting, and model building required. Additional experience in other design/art direction areas a plus. Applicants must demonstrate an ability to interface with faculty, staff and students and to balance the teaching and production needs of an active undergraduate program.

Duties: Serve as a scenic designer and/or scenic supervisor for four productions plus additional supervision of student design assignments. Supervise scenic painting and props for all productions; teach scenic design, scenic painting, and/or other courses as assigned, and serve on department committees. Maintain painting and prop areas. Reports to the Chair of the Department of Theatre Arts.

The Department of Theatre Arts (and Dance) has 21 faculty members, 6 staff members, 160 undergraduate majors, 3 performance venues, scenic and costume studios. The Department offers the BA degree in Theatre Arts, BFA degrees in Design/Tech, Musical Theatre and Performance and Minors in Dance and Theatre Arts. UTA is a major, Research I University with 45, 000+ students located between Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas (see Department website at http://www.uta.edu/theatre).
