UNT Theatre possesses a strong reputation in the area for quality training and a professional faculty. The Department of Dance and Theatre is housed in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences with approximately 400 majors and minors in Theatre. The Department offers a BA degree in Theatre with concentrations in Performance, Design/Technology, General Studies and Theatre Teacher Certification and a BA degree in Dance and a BA in Dance with Teacher Certification. The vibrant undergraduate program delivers a rigorous theatre education within a liberal arts context. The Department produces a full season of 5-6 productions as well as several laboratory events directed by faculty, guest artists or students. The Department of Dance and Theatre at the University of North Texas invites applications for a full-time, one year lecturer in Technical Direction (TD) to begin in Fall 2021. The position of Lecturer/TD comes with full benefits. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a 4/4 teaching load (which includes construction for departmental productions); supervise and manage the department scene shop; mentor and supervise student creative work; collaborate with performance, dance, design/tech faculty and guest artists; and serve as TD and stage management advisor.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to, to teaching courses in technical direction, multiple levels of stagecraft/construction, and other courses within the candidate’s field of expertise and as assigned.
MFA in Theatre with an emphasis in Technical Direction, or a related discipline; demonstrate digital drafting, hand and digital rendering techniques; and demonstrate evidence of teaching in the area of technical direction and/or stagecraft/construction and related technologies; work experience in professional theatre; scene shop management experience. Candidates must demonstrate experience with or a commitment to diversity and inclusion in preparation for joining a university that is also both a Hispanic and Minority Serving Institution.
Experience in welding, rigging, woodworking, and other methods of fabrication and construction. Experience using CNC, 3D Printing, and single/double purchase fly systems. Demonstrated skills in budgeting, organization, and collaboration.
