American University of Sharjah invites applications for an Assistant Professor (or higher rank) faculty position of Assistant Technical Director-Lighting and Sound Designer to begin in Fall 2020. This faculty member will join a program that currently includes three full-time theatre faculty and three full-time music faculty along with a number of adjunct professors.
Responsibilities include serving as Lighting and Sound Designer and ATD for two to three theatre productions for the academic year; managing set-up and strike of all music events; coordinating student crews with the Technical Director to serve as technical operators for music events; and assisting the TD in maintaining production shops, equipment and construction of theatre productions. The successful candidate will also teach a 3-3 load in theatre appreciation as part of our core liberal arts education, and serve on committees as requested. Other program duties may be assigned. We are especially interested in candidates who are dedicated to teaching undergraduates in a liberal arts environment, are committed to working with ethnically and culturally diverse faculty and students from across the globe, and who will thrive in a small, ambitious collegiate setting.
A terminal degree in theatre is required (MFA preferred). Proficiency at programming ETC lighting boards and working with moving LED lights is essential. Professional design experience is a plus.
