Introduction (Description of School/College/Dept/Program) The Peck School of the Arts offers twenty undergraduate and graduate degree programs serving over 1,600 student majors, making it one of the largest and most comprehensive arts schools in the region. The Peck School is a vital home for the arts, presenting more than 350 events each year. Spanning both the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukees main campus and Milwaukees East Side, Peck School of the Arts maintains a multitude of creative maker spaces, performance halls, innovative research centers, digital labs and other facilities critical to the needs of 21st century artistic teachings and practice. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is one of two public doctoral research universities in Wisconsin, offering over 24,000 students a comprehensive liberal arts and professional education through 195 degree programs.
Job Summary Our new colleague will share in teaching undergraduate courses across the curriculum in the Design and Visual Communication BFA program. Teaching opportunities may include courses at the beginning, intermediate and advanced levels. Potential teaching may include the following areas: Typography, Design History, Information Design, Design Entrepreneurship, Package Design, Digital Fabrication, UX/UI, Web, Professional Practices and Service-learning/Internship opportunities. Service to the program and department may include participation in the Design and Visual Communication Student Portfolio Review, BFA Design Entrepreneur Showcase and Capstone BFA Exhibition, supervision of student professional organization AIGA-UWM.
The successful candidate will show evidence of innovative teaching in design at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum.
Minimum Qualifications Applicants for this position must have or provide evidence of the following:
- A BA or BFA degree. Applicants must have the degree by the start of the appointment, and
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience with, computer-mediated technologies and core software applications relevant to the design and visual communication discipline, and
- Demonstrated experience in print and screen-based design
Preferred Qualifications Highly qualified applicants for this position will also provide evidence of the following:
- MFA or equivalent terminal degree. Applicants must have the degree by the start of the appointment;
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion;
- Evidence of teaching skills at multiple levels of undergraduate design curriculum;
- Evidence of creative, scholarly and/or professional design research;
- Demonstrated experience in, and/or evidence of, critical design thinking skills;
- Evidence of knowledge of emerging technologies within the field;
- Evidence of knowledge of design and universal design theory, history, and criticism;
- Demonstrated experience in, and evidence of, typographic skills
