The Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art in the College of Arts and Humanities invites applications and nominations for the position of tenure track Assistant Professor of Art/2D Animation.

The BFSDoArt offers interactions with visiting designers, artists, scholars, and a diverse exhibition schedule in our state-of-the-art Center for Art and Theatre galleries. Position Description. Reporting to the Chair of the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art, the Assistant Professor of Art in 2D Animation requires teaching entry and advanced courses in 2D Animation. All tenure-track faculty are team players who carry their loads in service and have active research. Assistant professors have an expectation to hold office hours on campus, attend all area and departmental meetings, serve on departmental committees, assist with student recruitment, participate in campus ceremonies, and contribute to student assessment. This position is a tenure-track, academic year (10-month) appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:

Earned MFA in Animation, or a closely related field, by August 1, 2024.
Ability to teach all levels of 2D animation.
Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities as appropriate to the discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:

1-3 years of full-time teaching experience at the university level.
Proficiency with Toon Boom Harmony, TV Paint, Adobe Animate, or related industry 2D animation software.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud applications in both Macintosh and Windows operating systems.
Demonstrated ability teaching storyboarding, concept and character development, rigging/puppet animation, and production.

Conditions of Employment:

Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.
All work (with limited exceptions such as research and study abroad and outside activities such as grading and email correspondence) for Georgia Southern University must be completed while the employee is physically present in the state of Georgia, unless specifically authorized by the university for a specific purpose and limited period of time within current policy.
Faculty are expected to contribute to the vibrant university community by engaging students, participating in events, and performing other responsibilities on-campus.
Faculty may be required to teach, conduct research, or perform service duties on any of the three campuses. Georgia Southern provides accessible transportation options between campuses.
