Overview: We are now looking for a Lecturer in the future of art fields and art related occupations, specifically focusing on the relationship between international art, education, and visual studies, the development of the global, social, and cultural entrepreneur, and new ways to think about the interconnections between art, work, and life. In this position you will have a chance to make an impact on students to adjust and respond to rapid and unforeseen changes in society, and create pedagogical and resilience through a global entrepreneurial mindset and alternative career planning.
The lecturer position is within the Department of Art in the School of Arts, Design, and Architecture. The Department of Art educates and prepares professionals in the fields of art education, visual culture, curating, and contemporary art. The department is recognized internationally for high-quality artistic and art pedagogical activities, scholarship, and research. The department has three study programs that are taught by leading scholars and practitioners in their field. The programs focus on the combination of theory and practice-praxis-and transdisciplinary artistic and arts-based research. The programs embody aspects of the highly valued Nordic education systems, emphasising democratic societies, egalitarianism, socially just pedagogical skills and practices, human rights and social and cultural sustainability.

Responsibilities: The lecturer position will advance society’s broader need of arts and art education professionals by engaging cohorts of international students through leadership, administration, and teaching, and student supervision. The lecturer will work with different audiences, institutions, and communities, including international professionals, practitioners, and researchers, on contemporary art, education, and visual studies curricula, especially in the Nordic region. The main objective is to provide pedagogical interaction skills for students to work in cross-cultural and global educational and communication environments. Developing entrepreneurship skills for students is an important focus in this position, to ensure professional future work-life skills with creative and critical approaches to design and art making, coupled with a deep responsibility for openness, caring, and equality. The position may include leading a MA program in the Department of Art.
Requirements: The lecturer position requires experience, vision, and leadership to develop and lead a culture of different ways of participation in the relationship between art, education, and the economy. This experience should include cultivating student praxis in the context of societal, cultural, and philosophical discourses related to international art, education, and visual studies. The position requires strong leadership and academic skills, and curricula development and teaching expertise in a variety of methods, including in-person, on-line, and multi-group group pedagogy. In addition, proficiency in the area of international education, English language teaching, and competencies working with multiple stakeholders is required. The position also requires a completed doctorate (or close to completion) or an equivalent level of professional competencies. Additionally, proficiency in Finnish and/or other Nordic languages, and experience working with Nordic institutions and stakeholders may be beneficial, but is not a requirement. The initial position is fixed-term with a possibility for advancement to a permanent position based on criteria set in the candidate’s success in his/her duties. The position requires relocation to Finland for candidates not already located in the country.
