The University of California, Irvine, Department of Drama invites applications for a prominent music director and leader in the field of musical theatre to serve as an Assistant Professor of Teaching in the area of Music Theatre. Join a dynamic music theatre team, training graduate music direction students in the three-year professional MFA program and undergraduate music theatre students in a renowned BFA and BA program.

The selected candidate will lead the recently established MFA in Music Direction and Musical Theatre Writing program. They will teach Conducting, Music Direction, and Musical Theatre Composition at the Graduate level as well as Music Theatre History and Music Theory to both undergraduate and graduate students. They will serve as music director and conductor for department productions as needed. In addition, the position entails recruitment and mentoring of graduate students and collaborating with other departmental specialties.

Candidates for this position must be skilled in music theatre writing and arranging, have outstanding professional credits in music theatre, and a strong commitment to teaching, training, and working in a university environment. Expertise in mainstage and current pit computer programs is a plus. Candidates must demonstrate a pedagogical and professional profile that is compatible with distinguished graduate training at a major research university.

A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience is required.
