The School of Art and Visual Studies at the University of Kentucky seeks applications for a full-time, lecturer title series, 9-month renewable, non-tenure eligible Lecturer of Digital Design and Fabrication to begin August 2023 (or January 2024 pending candidate’s availability). The successful candidate will teach courses related to digital fabrication processes, 3D scanning and photogrammetry, 3D modeling, and 3D asset and character creation for various 3D environments and manage 3-D digital lab. The hired faculty will be expected to work with area faculty on course and curriculum development, build a teaching profile consistent with School of Art and Visual Studies standards and participate in shared governance within the School, the College, and the University. The projected distribution of effort for this position is 50% teaching (two classes per semester), and 50% service. The salary range for this position is $48,000-$52,000 annually.
Our digital fabrication lab is equipped with 2 laser cutters, 11 FDM and SLA 3D printers, 1 CNC machine, 1 vacuum forming machine, and an electronic lab. As the 3D Digital Design and Fabrication Instructor, you will play an active role in the maintenance and development of this technology. Responsibilities include maintaining and developing the existing fabrication technology at the school, as well as develop new creative processes.
Candidates must hold a master’s degree in Fine Arts (MFA) or a master’s degree in a relevant field. Some teaching experience beyond graduate school is highly desired. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in digital fabrication processes, including 3D printingusing FDM and SLA machines, CNC milling, laser cutting, and vacuum forming. Additionally, the candidate should be proficient in NURBS and Polygon meshing software, particularly Rhino3D, RhinoCAM, and Blender for designing objects, working with meshes, UV mapping and texture creation.
