The Theatre Department at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications to fill a full-time Technical Director and Scene Shop Supervisor.

Description of Responsibilities:

The Technical Director is responsible for mounting all departmental productions during the academic year as well as overseeing the safe and efficient operation of the scene shop and affiliated performance venues. This includes budgeting all scenic elements of productions; creating technical drawings; supervising construction, load-in, and technical rehearsals; managing the scheduling, training, and supervision of student scene shop workers and production crews; maintaining scene shop inventory and equipment; maintaining theatre department facilities; assisting with affiliated performances; and organizing and traveling with productions performing at festivals. The Technical Director will also teach courses in their area of expertise and complete departmental and university service as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • BA or BFA with emphasis in technical theatre at time of appointment
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in technical theatre production
  • Master carpentry skills
  • Master rigging skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency with AutoCAD, Vectorworks, drafting and other design software
  • Basic welding skills
  • Teaching experience
  • Ability to lift at least 50lbs

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MFA in technical theatre by time of appointment
  • Knowledge of projection design, equipment and installation/setup
  • ETCP Theater Certification
