Job: Assistant Professor (Audio Arts)
Position Summary: The School of Media Arts in the College of Arts and Media at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is seeking an outstanding teacher and creative practitioner to join our multidisciplinary faculty as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Audio Arts.
Duties and Responsibilities: Principal responsibilities include teaching, supporting student projects, and participating in service to departmental, college and university-wide committees in addition to serving on graduate committees. The successful candidate is required to advance an active creative-research agenda.
Minimum Qualifications: Applicants are required to possess an MFA or PhD at the time of the appointment, with a proven record of exhibition/creative-research in audio arts.
The successful applicant will be able to teach introductory, intermediate, advanced, and graduate courses in at least two of the following practice areas: sound art, professional audio industries, sound design for linear media such as film and/or television and sound design for non-linear media such as games and/or interactive media, audio engineering, radio and podcasting including documentary audio.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Preference will be given to applicants who explore audio arts in relation to one or more of the following: film and animation, sound and radio art, sound synthesis, electro-acoustic music, installation, physical computing, cybernetics, performance, virtual reality environments, augmented reality and other interactive and emerging applications and technologies.
- Commitment to race, gender and environmental justice and the ability to teach sound studies courses is desired.
- Previous experience teaching as instructor of record at the college/university level is preferred.

The new hire will be expected to contribute to a multidisciplinary curriculum.

The ability to teach Animation and/or Game History and Theory courses is also desired. Previous experience teaching as instructor of record at the college/university level is preferred.
