The University of Arizona College of Fine Arts (CFA) and the School of Theatre, Film & Television (TFTV) seek an innovative, visionary leader with an entrepreneurial spirit for the role of Director in the School of Theatre, Film & Television. The Director reports to the Dean of the CFA and will work collaboratively with college leadership as well as other school directors to ensure that TFTV meets college and university strategic goals in support of diversity and inclusion, along with Arizona Board of Regents performance metrics.

The Director is responsible for leading the development of academic programs and partnerships on the local, regional, national and international level that are beneficial to the School, College, and University. Working collaboratively with faculty and staff to champion scholarly research and creative activity and innovative teaching, the Director cultivates and promotes engagement within the university, the greater Tucson community, and across the professions served by the School. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong fundraising abilities and budgetary acumen, combined with shared leadership in collaboration with the Dean and School directors, an internationally-recognized faculty, and professional staff. The Director represents the School to both on-campus and off-campus stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A terminal degree in a relevant discipline
  • A proven track record of administrative experience in a large, complex organization
  • Prior successful experience in fundraising and development and/or experience working with complex budget models and various revenue sources
  • University-level teaching and a record of outstanding research and creative activity Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrable talent in consensus building, strategic planning, visioning, and innovation
  • Communication and interpersonal skills needed to be an effective leader
  • Experience in community outreach and building relationships with diverse audiences

As one of four professional schools in the CFA, TFTV offers programs in Film & Television (BA and BFA degrees) and Theater Arts (BA, BFA and MFA degrees) to over 550 majors. The School provides rigorous conservatory-style training in the art of theatre and film and professional preparation for scholarly activity in theatre, film and television. The School’s programs nurture and develop outstanding artists and scholars through comprehensive preparation and mentoring by faculty, cross- collaboration between programs, professional internship opportunities and industry standard resources, and hands-on production experience. The professional curricula prepares students to succeed in a wide range of careers-in the industry, the arts, and higher education.

TFTV faculty members are leaders in Tucson and southern Arizona’s active theatre and film landscape, and work collaboratively with the Hanson FilmTV Institute, which provides and supports educational programs, public events, and creative projects to advance the art and business of film, placing a special focus on Mexican and Native American filmmaking. The Director oversees and promotes public understanding of theatre and media in Arizona and the Southwest through the professional training company Arizona Repertory Theatre (ART), Studio Series, I Dream in Widescreen Film & Television screenings, Undergraduate Research Symposium, and other educational outreach programs.
