The Department of Theatre and Dance at The University of Texas at Austin seeks a full time, tenured/ tenure-track faculty member with a focus in Costume Design for Theatre and/or Film/Television/Media. UT’s Department of Theatre and Dance is one of the largest theatre and dance departments in the country, with 50 full-time faculty and staff, and 400 undergraduate and 70 graduate students. Our aim is to serve as the ultimate creative incubator for the next generation of artists, thinkers and leaders in theatre and performance. To that end, we strive to create the most intellectually diverse, inclusive and equitable institution possible, and are committed to cultivating a faculty that reflects the experience and expertise of historically underrepresented groups.

The Costume Design faculty member will join UT’s dynamic Live Design program, and will collaborate with faculty, as well as graduate and undergraduate students across all areas of theatre, dance, and production. We seek candidates with Costume Design experience in one or more of the following areas: Theatre, Film, Television, Performance Art, Dance, Physical Theatre, Opera, and/or other Live Arts events. The department is strongly committed to the creation of new work and the exploration of new ways of working.

We are also interested in candidates who will contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education through their teaching, research, production work, or service. The successful candidate will foster critical study, creative practice, and innovation in the classroom and beyond. They are also expected to maintain an active agenda of scholarly research or creative professional practice, advise the M.F.A. Costume Design candidates, and perform other academic duties.

Rank and tenure status commensurate with experience. Competitive salary. The position requires relocation to Austin, TX. Start Date: August 2020.
