The Department of Theatre Arts at the University of Louisville seeks a full-time tenured Associate or Full Professor with expertise in an area of Africana Theatre. This faculty will serve a three-to-five-year term as Department Chair beginning Fall 2023 and continue thereafter as a faculty member. Their pedagogy and scholarship/creative work will contribute to our graduate and undergraduate programs and our internationally recognized African American Theatre Program (AATP). The Chair is the administrative leader of the department and artistic director of the Theatre Arts Department's production season. They assist the university advancement staff in fundraising efforts and negotiate with the university at large to secure and maintain resources coming to the department. They support the shared governance of the department in areas of curriculum development, recruitment, and retention of undergraduate and graduate students, and extend the mission of the department off-campus into the Louisville community and beyond. Requirements:  A Terminal degree in theatre or related field; Significant experience in Africana Theatre; Demonstrated experience in a leadership or supervisory position within an academic institution; Directing experiences in professional theatre, including, but not limited to equity/non-equity houses, festivals, and/or spaces that align with the department's mission of art-in-action.
