Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) - Screenwriting job#076664
The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University invites applications for two tenure-track positions focused on screenwriting in the Television, Radio & Film (TRF) Department to start in August, 2023. The successful candidate will teach screenwriting courses to students studying television, film, gaming narratives, and emerging visual media, and will play a key role in creating synergies that keep the Newhouse School at the crest of practices and trends in the entertainment industry.
Candidates should have significant professional experience and nationally recognized writing credits. The ideal candidate for this position will demonstrate teaching excellence and bring experience and proficiency in at least one additional area of creative storytelling, such as: screenwriting business, development, production or theory/critical issues. A Bachelor's Degree is required. A Master’s degree is preferred. The ideal candidate must also demonstrate past measure of success in a research and/or creative program that reflects active contributions to the screenwriting industry, through:

Publishing/selling of screenplays or books

Creation of published content about the field in entertainment media and/or journals

Development of an artistic, professional or academic specialization where the individual is recognized as an expert

Generating new and improved practices in the field of screenwriting.
This is a tenure-track position. Candidates must demonstrate the potential to bring national and/or global visibility to the School through creative activity and/or academic scholarship, such that they become recognized as experts in the field. This faculty member will also be expected to perform a variety of service duties, including academic and career advising of undergraduate and graduate students, school and university committee work, and community engagement.
