HAR 271: Creative Programming 1

The Visual Arts & Technology (VA&T) program is seeking an adjunct professor to teach the introductory Creative Programming course this fall. The class is part of a concentration in Creative Computation and covers the basics of programming in an art and design context using p5.js. We are looking for a dynamic artist or designer who can teach students the foundational concepts of programming while connecting these ideas to contemporary creative practice. The course meets once per week on Mondays from 9am-1pm and pays $5,000 for the semester.

Current course materials can be viewed here, though the person teaching this course will be welcome to create their own assignments: https://github.com/jeffThompson/CreativeProgramming1

Under this appointment, your responsibilities will include preparing and maintaining course syllabus, teaching assigned classes, attending all class sessions, grading and providing appropriate feedback to students, scheduling student hours, and completing all assessment requirements. You will also be required to provide your students and the College of Arts & Letters office with a comprehensive course syllabus before the start of the semester. The syllabus should include all course requirements, grading policy, course calendar, and a list of assignments. Finally, you will be required to adhere to the policies as stated in the CAL faculty handbook.

Qualifications: MFA in new media or a similar field. Experience teaching at the university level is preferred.

Online applications required at https://www.stevens.edu/directory/division-human-resources/employment-opportunities. Positions will remain open until filled.

Applicants should submit a current CV, statement of teaching philosophy including a diversity statement, and a link to an online portfolio in a single PDF. Workday will request a cover letter but that can be omitted.
