The LMU Dance Program, housed in the College of Communication and Fine Arts of Loyola Marymount University, is seeking a Tenure-track Assistant Professor who can contribute high-level dance practice and relevant, critical theory within the dance major. The position will begin in Fall 2025.

The Tenure Track position is a full-time position with the individual engaged in up to 3 courses per term teaching or teaching-related duties. The ideal candidate will demonstrate content mastery, artistic accomplishment, and teaching expertise, as well as maintain active work in the local, national, or international dance communities. Additional desirable qualifications include teaching or scholarly expertise in the role of dance in politics and/or culture; dance wellness and healing; dance media, film and/or technology. Join our facuty. 

The position will entail:

Teaching 

  • An African-diasporic movement technique (specifically one of the department’s principal genres of Jazz and/or Hip-Hop)
  • Dance Studies (historical and/or cultural) 
  • Critical theory in dance

Creative work/Scholarship

  • A rigorous and relevant creative/performative/scholarly research agenda        

Service

  • To the department, college, and university

The position requires:

1) a degree of MFA or PhD, 2) demonstrated teaching proficiency of at least three years (full-time preferred), 3) demonstrated excellence in the creative/performance field, (national or international-level preferred), 4) demonstrated leadership skills. 

Scholarly publication is preferred, but not required. Individuals who evidence a commitment to practices of Antiracism, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion through scholarly and creative activity, pedagogical practice, civic or community engagement, and/or a position statement will be given preference.

Applicants should show evidence of the ability to teach all levels of a relevant movement practice; evidence of ability to teach dance studies and/or critical theory in dance; evidence of a commitment to culturally relevant, diverse, and inclusive teaching practices; evidence of leadership and/or producing skills; evidence of ongoing creative, performative, or scholarly research and/or publishing.
