Summary:

The Utah Valley University School of the Arts invites applications for a Lecturer of Voice and Speech to join our core undergraduate performance faculty in the Department of Theatrical Arts for Stage and Screen. The position is a one-year, temporary position. The successful candidate will be a dynamic and skilled pedagogue able to teach voice and speech courses, with a strong background in acting and/or movement principles.

The Department of Theatrical Arts for Stage and Screen offers BFA emphases in Acting, Musical Theatre, and Design/Technology as well as BA and AA degrees in theatre. Utah Valley University is a large and rapidly-expanding regional teaching institution located in Orem, Utah.

The School of the Arts has over 1700 students enrolled in over 20 programs, making it one of the largest arts schools/colleges in the state. In March 2019 the School of the Arts celebrated the ribbon cutting on the new Noorda Center for the Performing Arts, which houses academic performance seasons as well as a professional performing arts series. In its inaugural seasons, the Noorda has hosted guests such as Bernadette Peters, Audra McDonald, Jason Alexander, Joshua Bell, and others.

Required Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited institution with an MFA degree or equivalent Masters Degree in theatre or a related field plus teaching experience at the university level.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of current industry practices;
  • Knowledge current voice and speech pedagogies

Skills:
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent communication skills

Abilities:
  • Ability to teach multiple topics and/or levels of voice and speech classes, including, acting in accent, and speech for heightened texts;
  • Ability to teach acting classes;
  • Ability to coach actors
  • Ability to collaborate with others


Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate may also possess:

  • Secondary expertise in one or more of the following: voice and movement and/or movement principles, directing, new works, or other areas unique to the applicant.
