The award-winning School of Journalism and Media at the University of Kentucky anticipates multiple openings as part of a faculty cluster hire search planned for the 2022-2023 academic year in our dynamic journalism and media arts and studies programs. The goal of this cluster hire is to attract and support diverse faculty who can teach both practical and theoretical courses in the areas of broadcast news and sports, video production and media production, and media law and ethics, in addition to their areas of research and creative specialization. The School is fully accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications.
We have revised our undergraduate programs to include paths in print, broadcast, and sports journalism and added a new video game design and development minor to our media arts and studies program.
Assistant Professor—Video Field Production and Media Studies Position requires the ability to teach courses in video field production and media studies. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated expertise in video editing, plus ability to teach in one or more of the following areas: media and culture, audio production, film production, or other area of production specialization or media studies. The new faculty member reports directly to the Director of the School of Journalism and Media and is expected to teach three courses each semester in the media arts and studies sequence. Professional experience is desired, as is a record of teaching experience and scholarly or creative work. Applicants should hold a master's degree or higher in a related field; a terminal degree is preferred (Ph.D., J.D., M.F.A.). This position is designed as a Special Title Series, tenure-eligible, 9-month assignment). Tenure-eligible means candidates must first meet the prescribed criteria per
Administrative Regulation 2:2-1 and statements of evidence to be granted tenure. Anticipated start is August 2023.

About the School: The School of Journalism and Media is recognized for its accomplishments in academic scholarship and professional areas. The School offers B.A. and B.S. degrees in two areas of study: journalism (print/multimedia, broadcast/multimedia) and media arts and studies. The school is ACEJMC accredited. The School also participates in the graduate program of the college that includes the M.A. and Ph.D. in Communication.

The School also promotes the free flow of information through its Scripps Howard First Amendment Center. Since 1981, the School has been the home of the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame.
About the College: The College of Communication and Information is composed of two schools (The School of Journalism and Media, School of Information Science), two departments (Department of Communication, Department of Integrated Strategic Communication) and an interdisciplinary graduate program. Nearly 1,700 undergraduate majors and 350 graduate students are led by more than 80 full-time faculty, who also teach in the university’s core curriculum and serve students perusing minors and certificates in the College.
