JOB DESCRIPTION: The Department of Dance, Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University, seeks candidates of national and international stature to fill the position of Assistant Professor. Candidates should have a track record of distinguished performance, technical expertise in a dance form(s) distinct from ballet and modern/contemporary dance, and an emerging body of choreographic work demonstrating evidence of interdisciplinary inquiry and collaborative processes. The candidate would extend the strength of current faculty through pursuit of a substantive national and international research trajectory, including presentation of choreographic works, and acquisition of funding for creative research and collaboration, among other activities. Evidence of and teaching experience in critical pedagogy preferred.
DUTIES: Primary teaching responsibilities will be in the BFA and MFA programs. Candidates will teach studio courses in their area of dance practice distinct from modern/contemporary dance, as well as courses in dance improvisation, dance composition, and interdisciplinary research methods; mentor, review, and assess BFA and MFA thesis projects; create original works and/or set existing repertory on student dancers for faculty concerts; and develop new courses exploring contemporary performance. The department seeks candidates who can contribute to diversity and inclusion through a collaborative approach to their teaching, research, and service, by participating in shared governance through committee service as well as contributing to Dance Department project initiatives as required.
