    Organizational Unit Overview
    The dance area of East Carolina University’s School of Theatre and Dance (ECU SoTD) is a pre-professional training program in a triple-track setting with equal emphasis on ballet, modern, and jazz with additional training in tap and other styles. Students majoring in dance pursue a BFA in dance performance and choreography. The dance area within the ECU SoTD is committed to creating an environment that fosters professionalism, collaboration, scholastic and creative achievement, and technical proficiency. The dance area is committed to preparing dancers for the many facets of the professional dance world via thorough training in dance technique, composition, and supporting lecture courses. The dance area sustains an enrollment of 70 - 80 BFA majors per year and also serves the ECU community with non-major courses.

    Job Duties
    This is a 9-month fixed-term faculty position as a Teaching Assistant Professor or Teaching Associate Professor. The position requires teaching all levels of ballet technique along with courses in the faculty member’s area of research. The faculty member will support the curriculum and mission of the program while building a strong artistic profile and/or research agenda that expands and complements the existing expertise in the department. Dance faculty must have a strong commitment to creating choreography for departmental concerts and other regional shows as well as mentoring student choreography and research. Other responsibilities include serving on School, College, and University committees in addition to professional service to the field. The faculty member will also be responsible for student advising, coordinating student activities and shows, supporting accreditation, and developing curriculum. The faculty member must be committed to supporting ongoing recruitment efforts while fostering a diverse and collegial faculty, staff, and student environment.

    Minimum Education/Experience
    The applicant must have a terminal degree (MFA or PhD) in dance or commensurate professional experience. The applicant must at least two or more years of experience in training and educating collegiate, pre-professional or professional level dancers as well as a demonstrated ability to develop or sustain nationally recognized creative activity and/or research.

    Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
    Preferred teaching qualifications include the ability to teach one or more of the following: pedagogy, dance science, partnering, pointe, composition, improvisation, and global dance forms, including but not limited to those from the African, Latin, Asian and Southeast Asian diasporas.
