American University of Sharjah invites applications for an Assistant Professor (or Higher Rank) faculty position of Scenic Design to begin in Fall 2023. This faculty member will join a small but growing Performing Arts Program. Responsibilities will include serving as scenic designer for theatre productions, constructing sets for productions with assistant of the program ATD, maintaining production shop and equipment, teaching a 3-3 load as part of the core liberal arts education, and serving on committees as requested. Other program duties may be assigned.
We are especially interested in candidates who are dedicated to teaching undergraduates in a liberal arts environment, committed to working with ethnically and culturally diverse faculty and students from across the globe, and who will thrive in a small, ambitious collegiate setting. A terminal degree in theatre is required (MFA preferred); preference will be given to those who hold at least one degree from a North American university. Proficiency at programming ETC lighting boards and working with moving LED lights is essential. Professional design experience is a plus. Deadline for applications is February 23, 2023.
