About the Industrial Design Programs (B.IND and M.IND) at Auburn
The School of Industrial and Graphic Design is housed within the College of Architecture, Design and Construction. Begun in 1945 and reestablished on the Ulm model in the 1960s, Industrial Design at Auburn was one of the first established and earliest National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) accredited programs in the nation. The studio-based curriculum focuses on teaching systematic approaches in the application of human-centered design. Today, faculty in SIGD form a cohesive body that fosters a close-knit relationship with students through hands-on collaborative projects. Balancing human needs, technical realities, and business intent, collaboration with industry partners has become a key component of the academic experience at Auburn. For the past two decades, the program has enjoyed success with industry collaborators that include: 3M, Aptar, HP, Smucker's, PlayCore, NASA, Emerson Tool Company, Microsoft, and Gibson Guitar. As a result, Auburn's Industrial Design Graduate and Undergraduate programs have consistently ranked within the top 10 nationally.
