  • Full-time Lecturer in Stage Engineering and Technical Direction
    School of Arts & Sciences: Theatre, Dance and Performance Studies

    The Department of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies at Tufts University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Lecturer in Theatre, with a specialization in Technical Direction. This position begins September 1, 2024.  


     


    Responsibilities include: mentoring students in technical theatre; teaching courses in technical theatre; technical direction for theatre, dance, and performance studies productions; creating and working within scenic production budgets; collaboration with full-time ATD and student scene shop employees; maintenance of theatre facilities; advising.  


    The Department of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies offers a collegial environment for thinking critically about histories and institutions of power. The department is invested in illuminating how social and cultural formations inform performances on and off the stage.     Qualifications


    M.F.A. in Technical Theatre or significant experience (minimum of four years) as a technical director or assistant technical director in both professional and academic theatre settings.  A strong commitment to undergraduate teaching is required. Comprehensive knowledge of scenic materials and construction techniques, including welding and rigging; AutoCAD and/or Vectorworks proficiency; experience in safe and effective supervision of scene shop staff; excellent communication skills; collaborative approach.  Preference given to candidates with a track record of mentorship in a university or professional setting.
