Te Kōkī New Zealand School of Music seeks a Lecturer in Classical Voice. We require a tenor, baritone or bass with a proven record of excellent teaching at tertiary level demonstrated by student success in important competitions and industry placements. The applicant must be conversant with the teaching and application of IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) and the lyric diction and grammar of Italian, German, French and English (RP and US); confidence with lyric diction for other languages such as Russian is desirable.
As a performer of considerable experience, the successful applicant will bring industry insights and advice to young students, and also bring network connections important to the School. Science-based voice teaching is a key feature of our department with all teaching staff expected to be able to relate to this approach and use it appropriately.
The successful applicant will be conversant with this approach and/or willing to build and maintain their skills in this area through ongoing professional development and to upskill as necessary. Experience and ability to organise scheduling and work with budgets is essential, as is the capability of forging and sustaining external relationships with concert presenters and industry partners e.g. New Zealand Opera. Candidates should be capable in the administrative areas encountered in university academic positions, and have a strong interest in collaborative work in the fields of practice and research.
