The School of Design at Syracuse University, in College of Visual and Performing Arts is an inquisitive and intelligent community of faculty and students who address issues in context. As a professionally oriented academic unit in a large research university, the School is fully committed to forging bold, imaginative, reciprocal relationships with constituents who are local as well as global. With a long and distinguished history at Syracuse University, the School of Design currently offers several highly-ranked undergraduate programs in Fashion, Environmental + Interior and Communications Design, a BID in Industrial + Interactive Design. The School also houses a graduate program in Museum Studies and an MFA in Design. In 2015, the School of Design introduced a dedicated first year experience that has proved to be extremely effective in providing students with a strong multidisciplinary foundation in the fundamental elements of design. To enhance our current offerings, we are developing a new undergraduate BS in Design. This will provide a counterpoint offer to the other BFA/BID offerings, allowing students to curate a multidisciplinary course of study while at the same time fully leveraging all that the University has to offer. Enrolling approximately 500 undergraduate and 50 graduate students, the School of Design occupies the Nancy Cantor Warehouse in downtown Syracuse.

We are currently seeking to fill two positions and are particularly interested in candidates who have demonstrated commitment to excellence by providing leadership in teaching, creative work, and service toward building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment, and who have the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues and community members.

SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY Full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Communications Design, College of Visual and Performing Arts, School of Design, Job #074181

We are seeking an energetic and innovative designer/educator with professional experience in design/advertising for national/international accounts in all media. The successful candidate will join a nationally recognized program whose graduates are in great demand. We have a collaborative, team-oriented curriculum that focuses on creative problem solving and the big idea. The ideal candidate will work with experienced, dedicated practitioners and be poised to mold the future of the program.

Duties include teaching and project/curriculum development at the undergraduate level, professional creative research, college governance, service in and outside the university and student advising. Tenure Track/Tenured Assistant/Associate Professor in Environmental and Interior Design, College of Visual and Performing Arts, School of Design, Job #074177

The Environmental and Interior Design program invites applications and nominations for one full time tenured/tenure track faculty at the Assistant/Associate rank. The successful applicant should be able to teach a broad range of undergraduate courses in interior design topics but specifically those focusing on design technology and interior design with an emphasis on the use of digital media and tools. Qualified senior candidates with previous leadership experience will also be considered for the program coordinator role. The ideal applicant will demonstrate a multi-disciplinary approach to design education and be comfortable exploring and teaching new and emerging software, hardware, and technologies.

The successful candidate would work with a strong team of educators in a well-established and accredited interior design program located in an innovative and collaborative design school and help create a strategic vision for innovative education as well as play an essential role in shaping the future of the program. Candidates should have a strong record of accomplishment in teaching, leadership and research/scholarly activity. He/she/they would promote the needs and aspirations of the program; help develop curriculum; contribute to accreditation efforts; teach undergraduate or graduate courses; participate in student advising and mentorship; conduct, publish, and disseminate research; help foster relationships with alumni, industry and outside stakeholders.
