The School of Music at the University of Kentucky seeks applications for a Lecturer in Music Business & New Media to help us create new opportunities for instruction in music business and entrepreneurship, new media, and commercial music production and support. The position begins August 2019, and the successful candidate will join us at an exciting time in the School of Music’s life as we launch new efforts to recruit and train students interested in careers in production, management, and popular music performance. The ability to work across disciplines within the School as a recording engineer and to help expand collaborative curricular opportunities across the College of Fine Arts is essential.

The successful candidate will teach two courses in audio engineering each year and will supervise students trained to assist in recording School of Music recitals and concerts. The incumbent will also teach additional courses in music business and entrepreneurship or other commercial music courses or lab experiences, depending on the candidate’s training and experience. As a lecturer, the new faculty member will not be required to carry out research, but the incumbent will provide additional support for recording School of Music lectures and concerts as part of the service requirements and will assist other faculty in fostering relationships with prospective students interested in music business, new media, and audio engineering.

Master’s degree in music business, commercial music, or related disciplines, and 1-3 years of relevant experience in commercial music industry, including work as an audio engineer, is required. Candidates with a DMA or Ph.D. in music and/or extensive commercial music performance and recording experience and some teaching experience is preferred.
