The Department of Photography in the Division of Fine Arts, Rhode Island School of Design, invites applications for a full-time faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor to commence fall 2019.
Rhode Island School of Design recognizes diversity and inclusivity as fundamental to its learning community and integral to an art and design education. We welcome candidates whose experience in teaching, scholarship, professional practice, or service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence.
The successful candidate will have a distinctive vision and should be prepared to teach photography as a vital cultural experience to a dynamic and diverse group of students from a range of disciplines. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research and practice centers on works and bodies of knowledge from historically underrepresented communities. Good interpersonal and leadership skills, clarity, generosity, and creativity in both personal work and teaching are essential. Candidates should be prepared to develop culturally diverse syllabi for studio and seminar courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level, and lead classes and critiques that model constructive, inclusive discussions and that encourage students to grow creatively and intellectually. They must also be willing, and/or demonstrate an ability to serve in administrative positions such as Department Head and Graduate Director within the department as needed.
