Visiting Assistant Professor, Dance, One Year Full-Time

The Department of Theatre & Dance seeks Visiting Assistant Professor for sabbatical replacement in a dynamic, large, physically and intellectually rigorous Dance program. Candidates should have a terminal degree (MFA or PhD) and a significant record of achievement as a dance artist and educator.

Duties include teaching both studio and theory coursework. The position requires teaching in one or more dance techniques as well as expertise and ability to teach in any one of the following areas: history/cultural/performance studies, dance education, improvisation, composition, somatic practices, dance science, production, film/video/media, circus arts, or other dance-aligned fields of investigation. The capacity to incorporate diverse perspectives into theory and studio courses coupled with a strong commitment to undergraduate liberal arts learning is required. The successful candidate must be a collaborator and mentor with strong communication skills and a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching.

Additional responsibilities may include choreography and direction within the department’s expansive co-curricular production calendar, mentoring student writing and choreography. Specific expertise and background in teaching writing is a plus.

Founded in 1848, Muhlenberg College is an excellent liberal arts college located in Allentown, PA, a diverse city of 116,000 near a variety of urban and rural attractions, about 50 miles north of Philadelphia and 90 miles west of NYC. The Dance program serves approximately 100 dance majors, dance minors as well as the larger college population. The department approaches the genre broadly and inclusively and offers four major concentrations: Performance, Composition, Dance Education, and Dance Science. An equal opportunity employer, Muhlenberg College is committed to recruiting and retaining outstanding faculty and staff from racial and ethnic groups that have been traditionally underrepresented in higher education.
