The College of Fine Arts seeks applicants for a tenure track, Assistant Professor in Arts Administration to begin August 2020.

The Department of Arts Administration at the University of Kentucky is the first stand-alone department in the field in the United States. The department currently offers a BA in Arts Administration, a completely online MA in Arts Administration, an online graduate certificate in Fundraising and Development, and online professional development courses. Pending final approval, the department will launch a completely online Ph.D. in Arts Administration in 2020-21.

The undergraduate program, founded in 1987, is the oldest BA in Arts Administration nationwide. Annually, there are approximately 130 students enrolled in the degree program. The graduate program, launched in 2013, was the first completely online MA in Arts Administration at a state institution. The MA is designed for working professionals and operates year-round. On average, the MA program has 65 enrolled students.

Currently, the department includes four full-time faculty and two full-time staff members including a dedicated instructional designer who works exclusively with the department’s online offerings. Additionally, the department employs 12-15 part-time instructors annually. The department values innovation in pedagogical models; the advancement of research in the field of Arts Administration; and collaboration among faculty, students, staff, and community.
This dynamic and passionate faculty member will teach courses within the core curriculum of the Department of Arts Administration, pursue a research agenda in the Arts Administration field, and hold service responsibilities.

Teaching, Advising and Instructional Activities: The faculty member will teach face-to-face undergraduate and online graduate courses as assigned by the Chair; supervise and/or serve on graduate exams and dissertation committees; advise graduate students each semester as assigned.

Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity: The faculty member is required to continually practice, expand, test and/or disseminate his/her professional expertise through research related to arts administration.

Department, College, University and Professional Service: The faculty member will serve on committees for the Department, College, and University, as requested; professional service to the field desirable; and assume other duties as assigned.

The criteria for evaluation, promotion, and tenure reviews are specifically defined in the Evidences for the Evaluation of Faculty in Cases of Promotion and Tenure and are based the University of Kentucky Administrative Regulations Please refer to these documents for full details on promotion and tenure criteria.

The appointee will meet the following criteria for teaching, research, and service: PhD in arts, public administration, policy, nonprofit management or related field required (ABD considered if finishing degree in 2020); One to three (1-3) years of college-level teaching preferable. Online teaching experience desirable; Evidence of ability to conduct arts and culture research, scholarly and creative activities; Minimum two (2) years of professional experience as an arts administrator preferred; Ability to work in a collaborative, team-based environment.
