The Art Department at Kansas State University invites applications for a 9 month Visiting Assistant Professor position to begin Fall 2021. The position is renewable for an additional year subject to renewed funding. The successful candidate will teach in our Graphic Design Program, with primary responsibilities in teaching Web and App Design as they relate to the graphic design profession, as well as traditional design courses.

The successful candidate will have thorough understanding of both traditional graphic design techniques and how that tradition carries forward into the digital realm. The successful candidate will have working knowledge in two or more of the following areas: HTML/CSS/ web design and development, motion graphics, or data visualization. Candidates should have the ability to contribute in all ways to the department, including the ability to teach students across disciplines, as well as an interest in working within a liberal arts environment. She/he/they will also be expected to play an active role in the life of the Department and University as a whole.

- Teach Graphic Design with a focus on the digital realm of design.
- Prepare students in the major to successfully develop a professional skill-set in the discipline.
- Participate in service to the department.
- Full-time visiting faculty on a 9-month appointment teach a load of up to 6 studio courses per year (normally 3/3), two to three six-hour classes per week per semester.
- Service responsibilities include taking an active role in student assessment, and aiding in the management of department equipment and resources.

Position Minimum Qualifications:
The position requires an MFA or equivalent in Graphic Design or a related field; some level of teaching experience at the college/ university/art school level (including as a TA). Candidates must be proficient in the appropriate programs of the Adobe Creative Suite. A strong record of professional or academic accomplishment in applicant’s field of design is essential. Candidates must also have excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to work well with diverse populations. The successful applicant must meet eligibility requirements to work within the United States.

Position Preferred Qualifications
Preference for candidates who, along with proficiency in the basic programs of the Adobe Creative Suite, have a working knowledge of modern scripting languages for App development on one or more platforms, such as web, mobile, or who have experience and skills related to digital arts and motion design. Teaching experience at the college/university/art school level.

Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
