Full-time Tenure Track Associate Professor or Professor of Graphic & Interactive Design  

Department of Graphic & Interactive Design 

The Tyler School of Art and Architecture invites applications for a full-time Associate or Full Professor of Graphic & Interactive Design, within the Graphic & Interactive Design Department. We seek to hire a tenure track faculty that will have a significant impact on the future course of our department.  

The ideal candidate will be a nationally/internationally recognized graphic designer with primary expertise in design that utilizes emerging technologies and methodologies such as Experiential Design, UX/UI (User Experience and User Interface Design), AR (Augmented Reality), VR (Virtual Reality), Game Design or Motion Graphics. Ideally, this candidate will have substantive administrative experience, and be willing, and able, to serve in leadership roles within the department. The ideal candidate should have a proven track record in leadership from academia or the professional design industry. The ability to think strategically and creatively about the future of Graphic & Interactive Design, to implement our vision for the department is particularly desirable. Ultimately, the ideal candidate will be committed to the evolution of the department, not just by keeping up with emerging technologies, but as someone who will promote the department as a leader in design education and help maintain the department’s competitive edge in research and teaching of graphic design in the 21st century. We also seek a leader who is comfortable contributing to and mentoring a culture of diversity in the department and school.  

Tyler’s Graphic & Interactive Design Department has 8 full-time faculty members who specialize in a wide range of interests, both analog and digital. The department is part of the highly ranked Tyler School of Art and Architecture. Successful candidates can tap into the synergy among the programs in the school, which include Studio Art, Architecture, Art History, Community Development, and others. The candidate will also have the opportunity to create new alliances with existing schools within Temple University. 

Tyler is located on Temple University’s main Philadelphia campus and is housed in a state-of-the-art facility. Temple offers the resources of a major research university in a culturally rich city and region.   

Qualifications: An MFA or professional equivalent at the time of hire and a minimum of seven years of successful work experience in graphic design, including any senior position(s). Demonstrated excellence in university-level teaching. Social engagement and a solid understanding of urban education. Demonstrated success in key aspects of graphic design education, such as leadership, program development, and fiscal management. Demonstrated commitment to service and inclusivity with respect to race, class, gender, ethnicity, and ability through professional experience, pedagogy, governance experience, and/or studio practice. Imagination and ability to identify emerging needs and opportunities in both graphic design education and in the field.
