Dr. Young-Weitzel has a wide array of interests ranging from the performance of a variety of musical genres to the development of curriculum for K-12 music courses to the promotion of contemporary composers for band and orchestra. She focused her scholarly interests on the development of curriculum and programs that foster a love for life-long learning and streamline the path to achievement in music.
As a teacher and mentor, Dr. Young-Weitzel is concerned with the transitional period experienced by pre-service music educators during the initial years of college.
Dr. Young-Weitzel developed a plan for the creation of a community school of music focused on the creation of educational opportunities for children and adults.
