Akosua Obuo Addo teaches music education at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, MN. Assistant Professor Addo teaches elementary music methods to both non-music and music majors, and supervises student teachers. In the graduate program, Dr. Addo teaches qualitative research in arts education, African music and world music in the classroom, and supervises thesis writing.
Addo is a jazz enthusiast and enjoys collaborative and comparative research on they way children create community and culture through music. Dr. Addo’s dissertation, Ghanaian Children`s Music Cultures: A Video Ethnography of Selected Singing Games, was completed in 1995 at the University of British Columbia, Canada. Since then, Dr. Addo has published papers in the Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education, UNESCO International Music Council, On Sociology of Music Education, International Journal of Music Education, the International Yearbook on Traditional Music, Journal of Music Teacher Education, the British Journal of Music Education, and the CMEA News. Other research interests include, intergrated arts education, international education and service learning.
